In South Africa neurointervention is currently performed by radiologists and neurosurgeons. We work in both the private and public health sectors believeing that all patients should have access to specialised treatment of brain and spine vascular diseases. Neuroiterventionists undergo further training after completing specialisation as a neurosurgeon or radiologist. The training includes both theoretical knowledge and working under supervision to the required level of competence according to the guidelines of the world federation of intervention and therapautic neuroradiology. Training is done in South Africa. We communicate regularly and share our experience in order to achieve a standard level of care through out the country. We believe that the standard of care in South Africa is excellent.
